SINOPSIS

CG 2 - Adquirir conocimiento de las diferentes disciplinas del campo de la lengua inglesa
CG 3 - Tener conocimiento de las literaturas en lengua inglesa en todos los niveles
CG 4 - Obtener conocimiento de la historia y cultura de los países de lengua inglesa en todos los niveles de aprendizaje
CG5 - Desarrollar conocimientos generales de otras materias de la rama de Artes y Humanidades, abordadas en el módulo básico
(segunda lengua extranjera, lingüística, lengua y cultura clásicas, historia, teoría de la literatura), para su aplicación al estudio en
profundidad de la lengua inglesa y sus literaturas y culturas.

Los estudiantes deberán llevar a cabo el trabajo de forma individual de manera que contribuyan al trabajo colaborativo en grupos y participar activamente en clase.
The course includes readings, critical commentary and practical exercises to achieve an experiential knowledge of the scope of the tools and methods used for the study of literature in the digital age, as well as to get started in the creation of works of electronic literature.
Students are expected to carry out the work assigned individually, to contribute to collaborative work in groups, and to participate actively in class.

Esta asignatura introduce a los estudiantes en el terreno de las humanidades digitales, ofreciendo un panorama de la evolución de las textualidades a lo largo de la historia hasta llegar a la textualidad electrónica, orientándoles en el manejo de los recursos electrónicos disponibles para los Estudios Ingleses: uso de bases de datos, búsquedas bibliográficas y tratamiento de textos. Se formará al estudiante en el análisis del texto multimedia y se estudiarán las transformaciones que trae consigo la tecnología digital en el ámbito de la investigación y creación literaria.
Brief description:
This course introduces students to the field of Digital Humanities, offering an overview of the evolution of textualities throughout history until reaching electronic textuality, guiding them in the management of electronic resources available for English Studies: use of databases, bibliographic searches and text processing. Students will be trained in the analysis of multimedia text and will study the transformations brought about by digital technology in the field of literary research and creation.
Objetivos
Familiarización del estudiante con la aplicación de las nuevas tecnologías en el terreno de los estudios literarios y la investigación, introducción a la cibercultura y a las humanidades digitales.
Objectives: Familiarization of the student with the application of new technologies in the field of literary studies and research, introduction to cyberculture and digital humanities.
Contenido
1. Introducción a los principales recursos electrónicos para el estudio de la literatura. El ordenador y la crítica literaria.
2. La textualidad electrónica: Del texto impreso a la pantalla. De la literatura digitalizada a la digital.
3. Desarrollo de la Web. Bibliotecas digitales y repositorios de textos literarios. Hacia las smartlibraries y la lectura del futuro. El Análisis de corpus y el estudio literario asistido por ordenador.
4. La cibercultura como nuevo paradigma artístico y cultural.
5. Introducción a la semiótica y al análisis del texto multimedia.
6. Introducción a la literatura electrónica
Thematic contents:
1. Introduction to the main electronic resources for the study of literature in English. The computer and literary criticism.
2. Electronic textuality: From the printed text to the screen. From digitized to digital literature.
3. Development of the Web. Digital libraries and repositories of literary texts. Towards smartlibraries and the reading of the future. Corpus analysis and computer-assisted literary study.
4. Cyberculture as a new artistic and cultural paradigm.
5. Introduction to semiotics and multimedia text analysis.
6. Introduction to electronic literature.

Assessment
The evaluation will be carried out on a continuous basis. The elements that will be taken into account for the final grade are: the completion of exercises and practices of varying length throughout the course; attendance to lectures and class participation; the completion of presentations in class and participation in forums through the Virtual Campus, a global group project and a final exam of a face-to-face nature. Grades will be distributed as follows:
10-20% - Exercises and participation
20-30% - Project
70-50% - Final exam
